Why I’m Actually Excited About eXp Buying NextHome 👀

If you’ve been anywhere near a real estate Facebook group today… you already know the rumor mill is working overtime. ☕🙃

And honestly? That’s expected anytime there’s big industry news.

But after reading the official announcement from NextHome and eXp Realty, my overall feeling is this:

I’m excited. 🤝🚀

Not panic-excited.
Not “everything changes tomorrow” excited.
More like… “this could actually be a really smart move for the future of real estate” excited.

Why This Partnership Makes Sense

Real estate is changing fast.

AI is changing marketing. 🤖
Consumers expect instant communication. 📱
Online visibility matters more than ever. 🎯
Agents are having to learn branding, video, SEO, social media, and technology on top of actually selling houses.

The brokerages that survive the next decade won’t just be the loudest. 👏👏👏
They’ll be the ones willing to evolve while still remembering this business is about people.

That’s why this partnership makes sense to me.

NextHome built an incredible brand around culture, collaboration, simplicity, and the philosophy of Humans Over Houses®.

eXp built a reputation for innovation, technology, scalability, and thinking ahead.

Put those together, and it creates something really interesting:
a company focused on the future without losing the human side of real estate.

The Biggest Thing Agents Need to Hear

According to the official press release:

  • NextHome will continue operating independently,
  • the leadership team remains in place,
  • the franchise model stays intact,
  • and the culture and brand identity are expected to remain the same.

Honestly, I think that matters more than anything else.

Because agents didn’t join NextHome just because of logos and colors.
They joined because it felt different.

Collaborative.
Supportive.
Less corporate.
More human.

That’s hard to build—and even harder to protect.

Which is why I appreciated this quote from NextHome President James Dwiggins:

“This is not about changing who we are. It’s about creating more opportunity for our people while staying true to the values that got us here in the first place.”

That feels very… NextHome.  🧡🧡

Technology Isn’t Replacing Relationships

One thing I think the industry gets wrong sometimes is acting like technology and relationships are somehow opposites.

They’re not.

The best technology gives agents more time to actually help people.

And let’s be honest:
no AI system is replacing the human side of what we do anytime soon.

People still need guidance.
Negotiation.
Problem solving.
Calm during stressful moments.
Someone to explain things in plain English without making them feel dumb.

That part of real estate still matters.
Probably now more than ever.

What I Think This Means for Agents

I think agents across the country are quietly asking themselves:

  • Is my brokerage preparing for the future?
  • Does my company understand where the industry is headed?
  • Am I getting the tools and support I need to stay competitive?
  • Can I grow here long term?

This partnership feels like an answer to a lot of those questions.

Not because one company “won.”
Not because bigger is always better.

But because the future of real estate likely belongs to companies that can successfully do both:
embrace innovation and keep the human connection.

And honestly?
That’s what makes me optimistic about this next chapter.
